The 1% Club viewers left confused after 'glaring error' and finding easier 'alternative' answer

Quiz fans were left puzzled after antics on The 1% Club following multiple answers to a 'simple' question.

Hosted by Not Going Out star Lee Mack, the show features questions and applies 'logic, reasoning skills and common sense' as 100 contestants battle it out to make it to the end and answer a question only 1% of the country can answer.

The brain-boggling show tests what proportion of the public can answer everything from 100 per cent, down through 90, 80, 70 and so on until it finally gets to one per cent and one lucky person bags the £100,000 prize money.

Viewers have been sent into a frenzy following a question from the 30 per cent section, which read: "Amrit and his grandad share the same birthday. Their birthday balloons arrive muddled up. Amrit's grandad is three times older than him. How old is Amrit?"

The answer claimed that Amrit is 26 and his grandfather is 78.

One baffled fan wrote on the show's Instagram page: "My other half is adamant that his answer of 29 is also right."

They added: "There's no string on those balloons, therefore you could turn the 6 upside down. 3x29=87 What do you reckon? Was he still in, or was he out of the game?"

Another fan inquired: "Could've been 2 answers which is odd... flip the 6 round to a 9 and could've been 29 and 87."

A third commented: "It could also be 29 ie one third of 87? If I had put that in the studio I would expect to Appeal!!! Previous questions have used balloons to switch 6 and 9s!!!"

A fourth penned: "Hmm they should've drawn strings on the bottoms of the balloons if they wanted to avoid people turning the 6 upside down for 29 and 87."

The TV star recently provided an update of what we can expect in future for Not Going Out.

Speaking to virginradio.co.uk and other press, Mack said: "I'm not sure about another 100, but discussions are ongoing now. We will be back with you shortly with some more information in one way or the other, we're talking about that."

He added: "I'd love to do more, I love doing it, it's great fun. I love the cast: most of them are here!"

Lee revealed that even though he loves doing the show, he stressed "it's not always my decision for these things. I just wait for someone to say 'There's a bag of money, get on with it'," he joked.

"I know a lot of people rave about American comedies, but almost all British sitcoms are my personal favourites.

"I grew up on Dad's Army, Rising Damp, The Young Ones, which was unbelievably revolutionary at the time, but that was a studio sitcom.

"I just think it's important to keep it going. I think it's an importantly almost uniquely British thing. I know the Americans do it, but I think the way we do it is very uniquely British."
